No one is giving them ANYTHING for RNH at this point. If EDM is resolved to the fact that he is leaving they MIGHT get a 7th for his negotiating rights. MIGHT. |

Edmonton- We need top 6 wingers
Also Edmonton- Let's not re-sign our only decent top 6 winger.
🤣🤣🤣 |

Maybe not the best comparable, but RNH's game reminds me a lot of Hossa... Versatile, always a threat to score 20+ and in the selke convo at the same time. Hossa played for 3 different teams that made the SCF (PIT/DET/CHI) in 3 consecutive years. Obviously they are not the same player, but he could be the missing link for a good team that can't quite get over the hump. |

I agree with this completely! Nuge is not the problem, a lack of any other scoring depth in the top 6 (top 9 if you want to be a legitimate cup contender) is the obvious problem...
Edmonton wont be more than a first/second round playoff team (thank you McDrai!!) until the Oilers "brain trust" stops giving middle 6 $$$ for 4th line players that should all be at 1m or less.

They really should let him walk. Use the cap space brining in some legit top 6 wingers -Hyman, Hoffman, Schwartz, Tatar, etc...
Schwartz-McDavid-Puljujarvi
Hyman-Draisitl-Yamamoto
You fit that by having Bouchard take over from Barrie, and then use picks to dump Neal and Koskinen. One to Seattle. One to Detroit. |

If Oilers could add Coleman and Schultz while NOT re-signing RNH, they would be a better team. Hyman would be awesome, but I think he stays in Toronto. |

It really just comes down to dollars though. If things went sideways in the contract talks, it likely means that the ask is too high on RNH's part. I like him, would hope he stays, but I think it would be a mistake to pay him a penny over 6 (in the current climate) for what he brings. I think we will see a lot more good players hitting UFA and parting ways with teams over the next few years. |

Any other year this might work. Not this year with the expansion draft. Anyone trading for him would have to then protect him and risk losing someone else. That means they have to give up an asset to get him, and lose another to protect him.
You are either signing him or losing him for nothing

It all depends on what he wants to be paid. 5 or less sign him. Over that let him go.
Keep him with Yam and Drai and quit with the line blender. They play great together when given the chance to string a bunch of shifts together. |

Considering the amount of time Drai and McYeezus spend on the same line (I don’t see EDM ever having the depth that say a PIT does allowing for more of a Sid/Geno setup) the resulting black hole at 2C is so large not only can you not afford NOT to bring back RNH, I think you will overpay for him. Same might go for Larsson on the Blueline. Though if Klef is healthy I do like the depth there.

Also heard on Sirius CBJ were looking into snagging Caleb in attempts to give more reason to Seth Jones to want to re-sign. What kinda return would he garner? One or the CBJ Goalies? |

Obviously you don't watch much Oilers if you think CMD and Drai play together a lot. It was done in the playoffs, but in the regular season they were split up unless they were down or on the PP for the most part. |

Far too much "the grass is always greener" attitude in most fanbases, including ours...meaning that if we had some OTHER guy's contract coming up and he wanted $5-$6m per, all of us would be frothing at the mouth to let him walk so we could sign this "Ryan Nugent Hopkins" guy (if he played for another team).
We already have Nuge, he wants to stay, so sign him. If we can throw extra millions at Koksuckin, Neal, Kassian, etc., we can certainly make Nuge happy. Sign Nuge and then fix the other stuff. |
